Quarrybeck Wood, Brampton, Cumbria, CA8 2EY
Description
DESCRIPTION
Quarrybeck Wood is a landmark woodland situated just north of Brampton, approximately half a mile south of the River Irthing and Lanercost, in a picturesque valley setting beside Quarry Beck.
The woodland is about 12 miles east of Carlisle and approximately 1 mile from the A6071 trunk road, linking to the A69 or Brampton.
Part of the woodland is classified as Ancient Woodland comprising an interesting mix of mainly broadleaved trees, predominantly Oak and Beech interspersed with Silver Birch and Sycamore. There are also areas of commercial conifers throughout, predominantly Spruce.
The woodlands amenity is further enhanced by Quarry Beck, meandering through the core of the woodland, feeding a series of pools and waterfalls.
A permissive footpath runs along the Beck and is in the process of becoming a public footpath, following an application made to the Council.
Quarrybeck Wood benefits from roadside access at two points, north and south, and open countryside borders the majority of the land with a tranche of woodland running along the southern boundary. The woodland lies on undulating terrain varying between 50 and 100 metres above sea level.
